There was a security scare at Nairobi’s Uhuru Park Friday
afternoon over an abandoned bag with police being called in to check its
contents.
Police cordoned off the area, delaying preparations for the rally to be held at the venue on Saturday.
The bag was later claimed by a young man presumed to be its owner.
The
Park is the venue for the Saturday’s political rally to be held by the
opposition Cord coalition politicians, to welcome home the party
principal Raila Odinga.
Mr Odinga is set to arrive Saturday from the US where he has been on a lecture tour for more than two months.
Cord
party leaders led by vice president Kalonzo Musyoka addressed a press
conference at the venue, where they urged supporters to keep calm during
the planned rally.
Earlier Friday, Mr Odinga appealed to his supporters remains peaceful as they prepare to welcome him.
