Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero will continue to serve as governor of Nairobi county
until the Supreme Court determines his appeal against a ruling that had
nullified his election. This is after Kidero rushed to the Supreme Court on Wednesday to file a petition to appeal the ruling.
In a majority decision by the Court of Appeal on Tuesday, it was ruled
that Dr Kidero’s challenger during the 2013 gubernatorial election,
Ferdinand Waititu had raised sufficient grounds to have the results
nullified.
The Supreme Court suspended the
ruling by the Court of Appeal that had nullified his election pending
determination of the appeal while also issuing an order restraining the Independent Election and Boundary Commission (IEBC) from declaring the seat vacant until the appeal is determined.
Dr Kidero filed the petition at the Supreme Court through lawyer Tom Ojienda.
